Overview

The Button, an advanced part in Obby Creator, can be used to create reactions when clicked/interacted with. Specifically, it can be used to activate parts, make parts invisible, make them visible, reset moving parts, or to reset push blocks.

Configurations

Behavior

  • Activate For Others: Whether or not one player pressing the button should trigger its effects for all players in the obby too. Default: false.
  • Button Type: How the button should interact with its assigned objects/parts. Either: Activate Parts, Parts > Invisible, Parts > Visible, Reset Moving Parts, or Reset Push Blocks. Each part has to be assigned to the button first for the behavior to affect them.
  • Activation Type: Whether all the assigned parts/objects should activate upon trigger, or whether the parts that activate should be randomly chosen upon trigger. Either 'All' or 'Random'. Defaults to 'All'.
  • Countdown Type: Controls the behavior of the countdown, if enabled as dictated by the Count Enabled setting. Options include CountUp, CountDown, TimeDown, or TimeUp. This is mainly stylistic and doens't really change the behavior of the button's effects. Default: CountDown.
  • Count Enabled: Whether, based on Countdown Type, there should be a countdown or a timer enabled for the button. Default: true.
  • Time: The time of the countdown or timer in seconds. If set to 0 seconds, the effects are indefinite, unless deactivated by a Button Deactivator. Default: 5 seconds.
  • Click Radius: Defaults to 0 (studs), which is results in the button only being triggerable by touching it. How long can the button be clicked from. Maximum: 200 (studs).
  • Player Activated: Whether players can activate the button. Default: true.
  • Push Block Activated: If push blocks touching the button should trigger it.
  • Modify Effects: Whether the activation type and other behaviors of the button should modify the effects of the affected objects/parts when the button is triggered. May produce small amounts of lag. Default: false.
  • Objects: Every object assigned to the button's behavior(s). Default is none.

Use cases

The button part is great for doors and other interactable objects. It should be made clear and recognizable as a button to avoid players getting confused in your obby.

View assigned objects

To view every object assigned to the button, simply select the button itself in Edit Mode. Doing so will highlight every object assigned to the button in red, as well as every button deactivator assigned to the button in yellow.

Trivia

  • Buttons are very popular in tower obbies.
  • If a button is clickable (has a click radius above 0 studs), it will not trigger after being touched.
  • By default you can have 400 buttons in a single obby at a time, see Block Limits for more information.
